I have Stage 4 breast cancer. I’ve debated with my loved ones how much, or even if, I would share this on social media. I’m a pretty private person, and for the most part I leave all the social media-ing to my amazing wife, but I truly felt the need and the obligation to be vulnerable and share my story in the hopes that it might help even one person. Because hear me now…You’re not too young to get breast cancer. I just turned 37, I’ve long term breastfed three babies, and I have zero family history of breast cancer or any female related cancer. My statistical chances of getting breast cancer at this stage in my life are much less than 1%. But here I am. Oh. And I have 2 different breast cancers. It’s hard to know where to start. I was still breastfeeding my beautiful baby Westin, who at the time was around 14 months old. He started feeding less and less on my right breast, which truth be told has always been my least milk producing breast that all my babies were annoyed with. It didn’t seem strange at all, but I did start noticing some pain and engorgement soon after. “Great, the dreaded clogged milk ducts,” I thought. I did warm compresses and tried to massage it, but nothing helped. I decided to wean him off that breast completely to try to dry up my milk and hopefully fix this situation. I was a 5 year breastfeeding veteran. This had to work. But after another month, it didn’t help. And then I started to notice some skin changes that concerned me enough to see my doctor. I had a bad feeling. Something’s not right. “Is this cancer?” I asked. She looked at it and told me she was 99% sure it was breastfeeding related, just engorgement, but we’d do an ultrasound to be absolutely certain.#breastcancer #stage4breastcancer #cancer #her2positive #her2negative #brca #breastcancerawareness #chemotherapy #chemo #mastectomy #cancersucks #breastcancerunder40#breastcancerjourney #breastcancerwarrior" | Zootzle
