Diet Prada ™ on Instagram: "Zara is facing considerable backlash after their most recent campaign, “The Jacket,” went viral on social media, users pointing out connections between the fashion images and those that have emerged from the Gaza conflict. Zara’s campaign stars American model Kristen McMenamy posing amidst rubble, broken drywall, and mannequins wrapped in white material. One set piece has drawn particular attention as some netizens claim it resembles a map of Palestine. Additional images feature mannequins with missing limbs, and the model posing in a wooden box.Side-by-side comparisons of the photos with real-life war scenes have fueled accusations of insensitivity. “This has to be a part of an extremely unfortunate marketing campaign, or just openly mocking genocide,” one person tweeted. Many others are calling for a boycott. As of posting, Zara appears to have pulled the images from the front page of its website and app. In a statement to Reuters, Inditex (Zara’s parent company) claimed the removal was part of their regular content refresh process and that the campaign was photographed in September. The war between Israel and Hamas intensified after Oct. 7.It’s not the first time Zara has been accused of anti-Palestinian behavior. In 2021, Zara’s head designer, Vanessa Perilman, sent inflammatory Instagram messages to Palestinian model Qaher Harhash. “Maybe if your people were educated then they wouldn’t blow up the hospitals and schools that Israel helped to pay for in Gaza,” Perilman wrote in a screenshot shared by the model. “Israelis don’t teach children to hate nor throw stones at soldiers as your people do.”Zara released a statement condemning Perilman’s comments, but if she faced repercussions from the company, they were not publicly disclosed. “Zara is a diverse company and we shall never tolerate discrimination of any kind,” read their statement. “We condemn these comments that do not reflect our core values of respect for one another, and we regret the offense that they have caused.”Zara has not responded to our request for comment.#zara #fastfashion #news #story #dietprada" | Zootzle
